Chennai: E-way bill will not affect small traders
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday called upon the traders not to panic over the e-way bill, that has been made mandatory from June 1 and said it would not affect the traders.
Responding to the apprehensions raised in the Assembly by Congress member H. Vasanth Kumar on Thursday, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said the Centre’s GST Electronic Way Bill (E-way bill) has been made mandatory for inter-State movement of goods of consignment value of more than Rs 50,000. It would not affect the small traders.
“This is a unique document that is electronically generated for specific movement of goods from one place to another— either inter-state or intra-state—under the current GST regime. Presently, goods worth Rs 1 lakh could be transported within the State without e-way bill,” Mr. Jayakumar said. Efforts were on to simplify the bill, he added.
Raising the issue, Mr. Vasanth Kumar said the move affected the small traders who moved their consignment within the State as they have to generate the e-way bill (EWB) wherever the goods are moved even if the consignment is valued less than Rs 50,000. This, he claimed affected the small traders the most.
