Trash report on land encroachment: VM Sudheeran

Mr Rajamanickam's report said foreign companies were holding land flouting rules of the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader V. M. Sudheeran, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, said the law secretary's controversial report on the land encroachment should be thrown into the dustbin.

He held the Left government responsible for him rubbishing the M. G. Rajamanickam's recommendation for taking over the disputed land.

Terming the report of B. G. Harindranath as unusual, he claimed that it was actually for the vested interests like Tata and Harrison who have encroached the land.

He said he had written a couple of letters to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on this issue as well as to revenue and law ministers. But so far no effective measures were taken.

"It is deplorable that the law secretary is acting as a lawyer of the encroachers instead of protecting the state's interests. There is a big conspiracy," he said. He also demanded an enquiry.

On Tuesday, the difference between the revenue and law departments kicked up a row as the latter rejected the special officer's report on taking back the encroached lands and the former wanted legislation to take them back. Mr Rajamanickam’s report said foreign companies were holding land flouting rules of the state.

As all treaties and agreements had become null and void with the Indian Independence Act, the land contracts also stood cancelled, he argued.
