Sriram Sugar Mill revival: JD(S) MLA resigns
Bengaluru: In an unusual pressure tactic, JD(S) MLA , Sa Ra Mahesh on Wednesday handed in his resignation from the Assembly to Deputy Speaker, Shivashankar Reddy , who was in the chair, urging him to either make sure funds were released for the revival of the Sriram Sugar Mills in his K R Nagar constituency or accept it.
Although Mr Reddy promised to ask Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to respond to his plea on Thursday morning as he was not expected in the House before then, Mr Mahesh remained adamant. Accusing the government of channelling all the funds to constituencies of Congress MLAs and ignoring others, Mr Mahesh trooped into the well of the House along with other JD(S) MLAs to stage a protest against the delay in release of the Rs 16 crore he claimed had been promised in 2016 for rejuvenation of the factory. “While my neighbouring constituencies represented by Congress MLAs receive hundreds of crores for developmental work, JD(S) represented constituences have got little,” he lamented. Although Mr Mahesh withdrew his protest after much persuasion, he refused to take back his resignation letter.
