Rahul Gandhi has promised to tour TN: TNCC

Rahul had said and described the circumstances as a rare opportunity for the party in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had asked party functionaries to utilise the present chaotic political situation in Tamil Nadu while also promising he would undertake a state tour for the purpose, TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar said on Wednesday.

Coming out with what the young leader spoke when he met party functionaries at Sathyamurthy Bhavan during his visit, Thirunavukkarasar said the Congress party men were longing for bringing back Kamaraj rule in the state and it could only be achieved by strengthening the party.

The political situation at the moment is conducive for Congress growth, Rahul had said and described the circumstances as a rare opportunity for the party in Tamil Nadu. By strengthening the movement, the party could get a unique place in the state, Thirunavukkarasar said.

The recruitment drive of the party, which has begun at the national level, would be taken up in Tamil Nadu and the process would be completed by June 30. The TNCC leader instructed the district committee presidents to get the application forms and membership cards immediately.

The Congress high command had sternly instructed that there should not be any delay in the election process, Thirunavukkarasar said. He announced that the membership forms and cards could be received by anyone from the district Congress committee or Sathyamurthy Bhavan. He insisted that there would not be any extension of the process.

He also said Rahul Gandhi’s visit and his speech appealing to party men to use the present political situation in the state had enthused party workers just before the membership drive. He also vowed to bring renaissance and vigour to the movement.

Rahul, who visited Chennai to take part in the 94th birthday of DMK president M. Karunanidhi, visited the state party headquarters after a long time and held discussions with party functionaries.
