Jayalalithaa's portrait will be unveiled, awaiting Modi's date: Speaker
Chennai: Unfazed by vociferous opposition to the move, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Wednesday asserted that a portrait of late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa will be unveiled inside the premises when Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives the date.
“The date will be decided by PM Modi. Chief Minister has invited the PM to preside over the event and unveil the portrait of late Amma. Once the PM gives the date, the event will take place,” Dhanapal told reporters here. During his meeting with Modi, last month, CM Palanisami had sought his appointment in July to unveil the portrait of the late chief minister.
Opposition parties, including the DMK, had taken serious objection to the move to unveil Jayalalithaa’s portrait in the Assembly, saying it was “illegal” since she was convicted in disproportionate assets (DA) case.
