BJP icon Yeddyurappa: No film on me, my life
Bengaluru: Far from being flattered by some of his partymen's plans to make a movie on his term as Chief Minister, state BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa has shot down the idea saying such gimmicks are not required to win over voters in the coming 2018 assembly poll.
Seeing the Kannada movie, 'Bhumi Putra' being made on state Janata Dal (Secular) chief, H D Kumaraswamy, a group of BJP leaders from Mandya district came up with the idea of making a movie of their own on the Lingayat strongman to tell the people about his government's achievements. Afraid that the Kumaraswamy movie could portray Mr Yeddyurappa in poor light as the JDS-BJP coalition government of 2006 was not exactly a success, they believe they need to tell their story too.
While the film on Mr Kumarawamy is being directed by noted Kannada filmmaker, S Narayan, the BJP men zeroed in on former MP, Tejaswini Gowda to direct their film based on her experience as an anchor on a Kannada television channel and her stint as a political analyst.
Ms Tejaswini not only accepted their offer, but also suggested titles like 'Kayaka Yogi' and 'Raitha Nayaka' for the film to portray Mr Yeddyurappa as a farmers' leader.
She was all ready to meet technicians and select actors for the film and release it before Bhumi Putra hit the screens when Mr Yeddyurappa called a halt to it.
"Mr Kumaraswamy may require a movie to tom-tom his achievements as the Chief Minister in the 20:20 government(in which the JD(S) and the BJP were partners) but not I," he is quoted as saying. Unhappy over the film being already announced, he reportedly feels he should have been consulted first.
