Visakhapatnam caught in a rut
Visakhapatnam: It’s been two years that the new government with N. Chandrababu Naidu at the helm has been formed and except for beautification of the city there has been no progress in any sector.
The beautification of the city was done during the Indian Navy’s International Fleet Review (IFR). There have been no new investments in the past two years. Most of them have remained on paper.
The grand plans of Mr Naidu to make Vizag an IT hub in the state also failed to reap any dividends. On the other hand, selection of Vizag to partner with US to make it a smart city, premier institutes like Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) were sanctioned by the Union government.
With the goodwill Mr Naidu earned for his work during the aftermath of cyclonic storm Hudhud in October 2014 that hit the city hard, the ruling TD is now gearing up to face GVMC polls expected to be held later in the year. Pharma companies, Apparel Park, PSUs in and around Vizag that help the local economy and create employment to the locals have been there in the district since some years. The Vizag metro rail DPR has also got delayed while the state government proceeded with speed on the Vijayawada metro rail proposal.
The proposed IT Signature Tower and Millennium Tower planned in Vizag to promote IT sector has not seen any progress. A new IT Township planned at Kapuluppada has remained on paper.
Except a bare concept plan of the IT township at Kapuluppada nothing moved on the ground. Only succor was the launch of Sunrise Startup village where startups by young entrepreneurs are being incubated.
