Magsaysay awardee begins stir, asks babus to send their children to govt school

The court said that the government must ensure penal provisions for those who violate this condition.

Lucknow: Magsaysay award winner Sandeep Pandey has started an indefinite hunger strike to press for the implementation of the Allahabad High Court order asking government employees and elected representatives to send their children to government primary schools.

Mr Pandey said that the court order which came last year had asked the UP chief secretary to take effective steps to implement the order within six months.

“The new academic session will start next month but till now the state government has not moved an inch towards the implementation of the historic judgement. I am on strike to draw the government’s attention to this”, he said on Tuesday.

The 35-page court order which came on August 18, 2015 had suggested a revolutionary measure to address the sorry state of affairs in the primary schools.
The court said that the government must ensure penal provisions for those who violate this condition.

For example, if a child is sent to a primary school not maintained by Board, the amount of fee etc. paid in such privately managed primary school, an equal amount shall be deposited in the Government funds, every month, so long as such education in other kind of primary school is continued.
