Vijayawada: Unexpected gales created havoc in Amaravati for some time on Tuesday, creating panic and leaving a woman injured. The sudden gusts of wind blew away several tents, but the accompanying rain brought down the temperatures in the evening in both Krishna and Guntur districts.

A tent set up at the High Court in Amaravati and other tents at the Secretariat were blown away following the strong wind. A Smart Pole at the main gate of the Secretariat and the shed set up for the security staff collapsed.

S. Ramana, a woman contract employee, was injured when a roofing sheet fell on her at the High Court. She was shifted to NRI Hospital for treatment.

The smart pole was installed with CCTV cameras and facilitated charging for cell phone and e-vehicles. The digital display fixed to this pole also gave information on the weather.

The sudden gale uprooted the pole. The Secretariat staff heaved a sigh of relief as there were no visitors at the time the gust of wind uprooted the pole.

The rain that followed brought hailstones and lashed several areas in Mangalgiri. People, who had been suffering due to the scorching heat for the past few days came onto the roads to drench themselves.

While some parts of Vijayawada received a drizzle and others remained dry, the mercury dipped, bringing relief to the people.
