Labour official relents after gherao by CITU men
Pudukkottai: Tension prevailed for a while at the office of the assistant commissioner of Labour (ACL), as a section of CITU workers, trade union wing of the CPI(M), led by their district President Selvaraj attempted to lay siege to the ACL office here on Monday, in protest against the ill-treatment meted out by an official.
According to Mr. Selvaraj, they went and met the official, Mr. Raghavan with a plea to review the labour welfare board cards of CITU workers.
But Raghavan declined the workers' plea and returned the renewal forms, saying the registration was already cancelled.
The CITU office-bearer alleged that Raghavan had told them he was under no compulsion to hear them, and reportedly asked them to leave the office, allegedly using unparliamentary words.
On information, another group of CITU workers and the AITUC's district secretary V. Singhamuthu and others joined the sit-in stir. However, revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and held talks with both sides.
Following the peace talks, ACL Raghavan received the renewal application forms of the CITU workers and normalcy was restored.
