Chennai: Search on for fake doc who cheated jeweller

Chennai: Sivakanchi police have launched a search for a man who cheated a jeweller of 15 sovereigns gold in Kancheepuram on Tuesday morning. According to police, Mohan Lal runs a jewellery shop near his house in Kancheepuram market police limits. Police said, “On Tuesday at around 11 am, Mohan Lal received a call from Dr Ramesh (name changed), a surgeon in a popular private hospital in Kancheepuram who is known to him.

The alleged doctor asked Mohan Lal to bring four gold chains of a particular design to his hospital. Mohan Lal sent the gold chains to the hospital through his son Dinesh. “

Police sources said, “When Dinesh came to the hospital, a man intercepted him and asked him to give the four chains which the doctor asked for. He alleged that Dr Ramesh was in the ICU, attending a patient.”

Believing him, Dinesh gave him the four gold chains worth 15 sovereigns and was waiting to receive Rs 4 lakh for the chain. The man did not return. When Dinesh enquired with the reception, he found that the man was not an employee of the hospital.

Realizing that he was robbed, he lodged a complaint with Sivakanchi police who registered a case and retrieved CCTV footage from the hospital to identify the man. Further investigations are on.
