Bengaluru: Prankster or terrorist? Police up hunt for suspect

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ravi D Channannavar has formed teams to track down the person.

Bengaluru: The city police are trying to track down a man dressed in Arab attire, whose apparently suspicious behaviour caused panic at the Majestic metro station on Monday evening. At the entrance, metal detectors picked up on a mysterious object and the man, who had allegedly approached a woman to carry out a mysterious ‘job’, left the station instead of agreeing to a more detailed check.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ravi D Channannavar has formed teams to track down the person.

The woman told police that the man's behaviour was suspicious for he walked in and out of the station repeatedly. Then, he approached her and promised to give her any sum of money in return for carrying out “a job.”

CCTV footage at the station shows the man enter the station and pause for a routine security check. The hand-held metal detector began to beep and he was asked to undergo a thorough check. He refused, and walked out of the station.

Surprisingly, security officials let him off despite his suspicious behaviour. The man then approached the woman about the ‘job’. The woman ran away in panic. However, she was approached by security personnel to provide a detailed physical description of the suspect. Later, a complaint was filed at the jurisdictional police station, following which Channannavar formed teams to track the suspect.

The DCP said the man looked suspicious. Police have taken the matter seriously and investigating all the angles. They, however, don’t discount the possibility that he might be playing a prank.
