Back-to-back polls put in EC in fix on inking

The EC could now ink the voter’s thumb, ring finger and little finger.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission has caught up in a unique situation on marking voter’s finger with indelible ink during MLC elections.

The voters in the state have already got their four fingers marked with ink as they participated in various elections in the last five months — Assembly polls in December 7, panchayat polls in January, Lok Sabha election in April 11, and MPTC and ZPTC election this month.

Barring Assembly and Panchayat elections, the electoral ink applied for Lok Sabha polls and ZPTC and MTPC polls have not got faded and could be play spoilsport during upcoming elections for MLCs and municipal polls.

The EC could now ink the voter’s thumb, ring finger and little finger.

A senior official from EC said that the office has not yet decided on the finger to mark the indelible ink during MLC election and would seek the advice of the Election Commission.

However, sources in the electoral ink will be used to mark the right side finger for the MLC polls and and any finger which does not have ink mark for municipal polls — one of the firsts since Independence.
