Anantapur: Krishna water diverted to PABR
Anantapur: In the wake of rise in mercury-leves and poor availability of water sources in the reservoirs, the district administration has planned to keep reserves of water in the summer storage tanks and also reservoirs connected to supply drinking water sources in Anantapur district.
Collector G. Veerapandiyan, along with engineers of HNSS and HLC, inspected the reservoirs in the district.
The Penna-Ahobilum Balancing Reservoir (PABR) is a major source to store drinking water to meet the needs of Anantapur Municipal Corporation, Neelakanta-puram.
Due to poor allocation from the Tungabhadra reservoir, the government was allotting Krishna water through Srisailam reservoir in Malyalala towards Anantapur district and Krishna water is also being diverted towards PABR reservoir to meet drinking water needs in major parts of Anantapur district.
Krishna water is being diverted from Jeedipalli reservoir in Belaguppa mandal to PABR. Officials briefed that only 1.58 TMC ft of water is available at PABR project as against actual capacity of 11.1 TMC ft. The collector directed the engineers of PABR to store maximum water in the reservoir to ameliorate the crisis in summer season.
“No village shall face drinking water problem during summer season,” the collector said and added the engineers of pump house at Kudair, a connecting drinking water pipeline project towards AMC should maintain all measures to supply pure and safe drinking water to avoid untoward seasonal outbreak.
RWS SE Hareram Naik said drinking water is being supplied through private tankers to more than 500 habitations.including urban areas due to deep depletion ofgroundwater sources.
Minor irrigation superintendent engineer Magbul Saheb,HNSS superintendent engineer NV Ramana, HLMC superintendent engineer M.Rajasekhar and others accompanied the collector during visit.
