Illegal encroachment of Sidco land: Plea to take action against ex-mayor Subramaniam

Claiming that this information was false, the petitioner said the property was originally allotted to S.K. Kannan.

Chennai: A public interest litigation has been filed in the Madras high court to direct authorities to take action against former Chennai mayor and DMK MLA Ma. Subramaniam, for allegedly encroaching a property, owned by Sidco in Guindy.

A division bench comprising Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and P. Rajamanickam before whom the PIL filed by S.Parthiban, came up for hearing ordered notice to Sidco and Ma. Subramaniam and posted to June 29, further hearing of the case.
According to petitioner, Ma Subramaniam in his nomination papers filed during the state assembly election in the year 2016 had stated that the property situated in Adayar Village, old No.4, present door no.7-1/4, Labour Colony, Guindy, Chennai stands in the name of his wife Kanchana.

Claiming that this information was false, the petitioner said the property was originally allotted to S.K. Kannan by the industries and commerce department on February 14, 1959, and the said Kannan died on October 15, 2015, leaving behind his six daughters and his only son and the legal heir certificate issued also confirms the same, where as the name of Kanchana, wife of Ma.Subramaniam was not found in it. Ma. Subramaniam who was also a lawyer and former mayor, by using his power and political influence had created documents and produced the same before the Sidco with an intention to grab the property. The officials of Sidco also colluded with Ma. Subramaniam, he alleged.

He said as per the reply given by the public information officer, Sidco, by his letter dated June 28, 2016, either Kannan, in whose favour the allotment was made, or his legal heirs were in possession of the property. Therefore, it was clear that Ma. Subramaniam and his wife had demolished the old structure and constructed the new house by encroaching upon the government property by using his political influence and official position, he added.
