Hyderabad police buying booze slapped with memo

As a corrective measure, a meeting was also held with the patrol vehicle staff at the West Zone DCP office.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar has served a memo to the S.R. Nagar police inspector following a report in DC about a video that went viral, showing a police patrol vehicle accepting liquor bottles from a man carrying them from a wine shop. As a corrective measure, a meeting was also held with the patrol vehicle staff at the West Zone DCP office. According to ACP Panjagutta Vijay Kumar, the man who bought the liquor, identified as Chaitanya, a home guard, is likely to face strict action.

In the video, a man is seen carrying a pack of alcohol bottles from a wine shop in Madhura Nagar and handing it over to a Hyderabad Police patrol van from S.R. Nagar police station, parked at a distance of about 100 feet. Chaitanya is seen taking the pack from him. A detailed report has been submitted by the S.R. Nagar police, the ACP said.

“The patrol van was driven by a constable, with Suresh and Chaitanya in it, and the latter summoned the man and handed him Rs 600 and a paper bag to get liquor. As seen in the video and in CCTV footage from the area, the man bought one full and one half bottle and handed them to the home guard,” Kumar said.

As mentioned in the report, Chaitanya claimed the liquor was for his sister's wedding in Andhra Pradesh and he had to buy it here as there is a bandh in AP. "He produced the wedding invitation and said he was supposed to carry the liquor to AP. However, we will take action against him as such an act sends a wrong message to the public," Kumar said.
