Hyderabad metro faces jumping, crossing issue; L&T catches 10 so far
Hyderabad: Ten people have been caught by L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail staff for jumping over from the platform and crossing the tracks to go to the opposite platform.
The tracks on the Metro rail being completely electronic, crossing the tracks is extremely dangerous.
A senior officer on condition of anonymity said, “This has become a major challenge for us. Two days ago, the driver had to apply emergency breaks at Begumpet to save a passenger who had alighted down. Security has been tightened but people are still found to indulge in such activities.”
There have been cases at Begumpet and Secunderabad, where people have crossed the tracks to reach the other platform.
They say that they do it after getting onto the wrong platform. They are in a hurry and hence, use the tracks. This has made the L&T Metro Rail to consider using more signages to communicate with passengers and also display local station names at the concourse level.
Due to the international guidelines, the escalators show only Ameerpet, Nagole, Miyapur, and people who are not used to travelling on metros often get confused.
They are found to go on the wrong platform and then cross the tracks in order to save time.
As a precautionary measure, the fag end of the platform, which opened to the tracks, now has a steel barricade and a red sign put up on it warning people to not cross the tracks.
Similarly, the point where the train stops also has a barricade to ensure that people do not move further.
Another senior officer said, “This is the biggest challenge for us, as this habit of people can create a dangerous situation.”
