Chennai: Much to the relief of the drought-hit state, moderate rains lashed interior Tamil Nadu districts on Sunday due to the convection activity. However, temperatures continued to soar in coastal districts, including Chennai.

While Kodaikanal recorded 37mm rainfall on Sunday, Coonoor noted 9.1 mm, cooling the hill stations. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty wind are likely to occur at isolated places over interior Tamil Nadu for the next two days, the Regional Meteorological Centre said in its forecast on Sunday.

“An intense storm has moved from Andhra Pradesh towards Vellore, bringing rainfall to northern Tamil Nadu district. Rains are being witnessed in Salem and the surrounding areas due to convection activity” said weather blogger, Pradeep John.Meanwhile, temperatures in Chennai continue to hover around 35 degrees Celsius, with Meenambakkam was burning at 37.6 degrees and Nungambakkam at 35.6 degrees.
