Tamil Nadu board students worry about average Neet score

Hurried, lesser preparation time made exam tougher, say candidates.

Chennai: Despite attending coaching classes from one month to one year, students from state board found Neet difficult and referred to their performance as just average.

Aditya Pranab from Sri Sankara School in Adyar said it was not a tough paper. “CBSE has brought down the difficulty level compared to last year. Physics questions were a bit lengthy this year,” he said. A CBSE student, said he was preparing for Neet exam for last two years. But state board students found the exam tough.

“I attended coaching classes for a month. I am disappointed with the Physics and Chemistry sections. I am still hopeful of clearing the entrance test,” said Sahana from Pudukottai.

“The state board syllabus hasn’t changed in the past 10 years. How then are we expected to compete with CBSE students or perform well in Neet,” she asked.
Another student, S. Kavitha from Velammal School in Chennai, said the questions were asked from both the plus one and plus two syllabus. She found the physics part lengthy.

Santhosh from CEOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madurai said the physics part was tough in Neet exam. State board students also found the 30-day crash coaching for Neet insufficient.

“The 30 days of coaching were surely not sufficient and writing the test served as a great challenge,” said Jerusha Caroline from Nagamalai, Madurai.

Some students found the question paper easy as it had familiar questions. Janapriya from SRV school in Tiruchy said, “The test was easy and I am happy with my performance. Though I attended coaching classes only for a month, I performed well on the exam as I knew the answers.” She studied in CBSE until class 10 and moved to the state board for higher secondary classes.

“The performance of state board students in Neet exam would be average this year. We have given Neet coaching for one year to our students. Despite that only a few students are expecting scores around 450 out of 720 this year,” said P. Swaminathan, secretary, SRV schools in Namakkal and Tiruchy districts.
“Without knowing the MBBS admission procedure for 2017-18, it is too early to say whether it will affect the state board students. But, in general, state board students found the exam difficult,” he said.
