Nagma calls on friend' Rajinikanth, says meeting was apolitical

Describing Rajinikanth as a friend, Nagma told reporters that the meeting had nothing to do with Mahila Congress.

Chennai: Actor and Mahila Congress leader Nagma met Tamil film icon Rajinikanth at his residence here, triggering political speculation at a time BJP is reported to be wooing the superstar to join the party as it plans to ramp up its presence post-Jayalalithaa.

Ms Nagma, General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress, had acted with Mr Rajinikanth in 1995 super hit film Baasha. The Congress leader and actor has been in town for the past few days and said she met Mr Rajinikanth out of courtesy.

“In conversation with my favourite #co-star and friend #Rajnikant from Baasha met him today was so nice to catch up with him in various issues,” Ms Nagma tweeted along with pictures of her with the Tamil superstar. Describing Rajinikanth as a friend, she told reporters that the meeting had nothing to do with ‘Mahila Congress.’

To a question, she said many people have huge expectations from Rajinikanth. “If he comes into politics he will be very successful and he will be very good,” Ms Nagma said. BJP has been actively wooing the Superstar to take a plunge in politics since it feels there is “political vacuum” post Jayalalithaa’s death and ill-health of DMK chief M Karunanidhi.
