Chennai: Within hours of a delegation of Tamil Film Producers Council meeting the City police commissioner, Karan Singha, seeking action against piracy of the blockbuster movie Bahubali-2, the police arrested 16 people and seized 2,100 pirated DVDs of new movies.
“We met the Police Commissioner on our complaint seeking action against piracy of Bahubali-2,” council president and actor Vishal told reporters after meeting Singha along with some of his colleagues in the producers body on Sunday afternoon.
By 7.30 pm the police rounded up 16 people from Nethaji Bazaar in Aminjikarai, Burma Bazaar, Rattan Bazaar, Sathya bazaar, Vadapalani and Choolaimedu and seized 2,100 pirated DVDs of Bahubali -2, Kavan, Dora and Pa.Pandi.
Vishal, during his interaction with reporters, said information related to illegal uploading of the film online was also provided by the Council in their complaint to the police.
The Council said it had identified many websites where Bahubali-2 was available for illegal downloading. The producers' body said it had received a complaint from the makers of Bahubali-2 about the piracy. The movie has been pirated by ‘internet mafias’ in the name of ‘Tamil Rockers’ and has been uploaded in many of their websites to facilitate illegal download, causing a ‘humongous loss’ to the film producers, TFPC said in its complaint.
Vishal said the issue of broadcast of films by some local cable television operators was also brought to the notice of the police official.
