Bengaluru: Metro goes off track on facts

Land Acquisition Officer Channappa Goudar from BMRCL said, “The stretch from Tin Factory to Lowry Memorial has not been acquired yet.\"

Bengaluru: On February 7, BMRCL announced on its official Twitter handle that land acquisition on the Byyappanahalli-Whitefield stretch was complete. It went ahead and awarded the contract for demolition of structures too in this section which has been divided into two parts.

“Though Namma Metro had made the announcement, recent reports suggest that KIADB is still to acquire land pockets. But even before that BMRCL has gone ahead with tenders for construction," Mr Srinidhi, a member of advocacy group PraajaRAAG, said.

The construction of the 15.5 line has been awarded to Italian-Thai Development Public Company, though the land from Tin Factory to Lowry Memorial is still to come under Metro.

On February 7, Public Relations Officer Vasanth Rao had tweeted on the official handle, @cpronammametro, “Land acquisition for Reach 1 Extension is complete including Lowry School Property."

Mr Srinidhi pointed out that even the BMRCL's latest monthly newsletter (April) states that only joint measurement of land between Tin Factory and Lowry Memorial is done and that it has been sent to SLAO (Special Land Acquisition Officers), KIADB for verification.
