Parents protest fee hike at Kalpa school in Hyderabad

Members of the Hyderabad School Parents Association joined the stir.

Hyderabad: Parents of students studying at Kalpa School, Banjara Hills, took to the streets on Saturday against a hike in tuition fees. They said the school had hiked fees by almost 70 per cent in four years.

Parents carrying placards denouncing the fee hike assembled near the school at 10 am. Members of the Hyderabad School Parents Association joined the stir. After two hours, the management called them for talks on Tuesday.

Ms Sakina Fathima, who led the protest, said: “The tuition fee for Class VI students has been raised to Rs 75,300. This is exclusive of charges for textbooks, transport and others. We are horrified by the 20 per cent hike this year.”

HSPA member Aravinda Jata said that they would continue to protest against schools that increase fees irrationally every year. This is the second such protest in a month. Earlier, parents of children at St. Peter’s School, Nacharam, forced the management to reduce the quantum of fee hike.
