Demand for Sammakka-Saralamma district with Mulugu

Mulugu projected as headquarters for new district.

Warangal: The demand for Sammakka-Saralamma district with Mulugu as district headquarters has been a long standing one. Ever since Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao declared that the state would be carved into 15 more districts, the demand for the tribal district has increased from all sections of society.

If the state government goes ahead with its plan to make Jangaon and Bhupalapally as districts, the creation of the tribal district will not be possible.
President of Mulugu district formation committee Munjala Bikshapathi said the state government should reconsider its decision and create Sammakka-Saralamma district with Mulugu as the centre. He said they would agitate till the government makes an announcement.

Mulugu Assembly constituency is rich in natural resources and is famous for its tourist circuit. Mulugu MLA Azmeera Chandulal also proposed to the Chief Minister to form Sammakka-Saralamma district with Assembly constituencies of Mulugu, Bhupalpally, Parkal, Narsampet, Manthani of Karimnagar district and Pinapaka of Khammam district.

Locals say the geographical connectivity from National Highway-163 leading from Hyderabad to Bhopalpatnam of Chhattisgarh state, tourism circuit, ITDA project located in Eturnagaram, wild life sanctuaries located in Tadvai and Eturunag-aram are a great advantage. There is also good infrastructure available for government offices and 2,500 acres of government land available.

“Mulugu town is accessible to all corners of the proposed district. The border mandal of Mangapet in the existing district is 120 km away from the district headquarters, whereas Mulugu headquarters is just 70 km away from it. There is a very good irrigation potential with large lakes like the Laknavaram and Ramappa tanks”, said B. Mohan Kumar, a cable operator in Mulugu.
