Chennai won't get rain, but mercury won't be too unkind
Chennai: Despite moderate rainfall and thunderstorms in interior parts of Tamil Nadu, the possibility of rainfall in Chennai is still bleak. The day’s highest temperature will, however, remain marginally below normal, which is what the weather bloggers and the Met department agree upon.
According to T. Gokul an independent weather blogger, as Chennai is located in the coastal area, chance of rainfall in the city is very little but the temperatures will remain closer to normal within 36 degree Celsius and 37.5 C. “Till May 15 and 16, Chennai and other coastal areas will have temperatures that are below normal at this time of the year and that will be due to the winds blowing from the Bay of Bengal into the land,” he said. He added that after May 16 the day’s high temperature would get to as high as 40 C and above quickly.
The Met department officials said that while Chennai won’t receive rainfall, the western interior parts of Tamil Nadu like Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem, Dindi gul will have moderate rainfall ranging between 5cm and 10 cm.
“The interiors will get late afternoon to early evening rainfall. Only when the areas are located 50 kms away from the sea, there is a chance of heavy rainfall,” said a Met department official.
