Kottayam: Five persons were killed and one seriously injured in a car mishap near Manathoor in Pala- Thodupuzha route on Sunday evening. The deceased were identified as Vishnuraj, 27, of Kizhakk-ekkara house, Kadanad; Vijayaraj alias Jobin K George, 28, of Naduvilekutt house, Kadanad; Pramod Soman, 27, of Erivelikunnel house, Kadanad; Sudhi George, 27, of Arakkaparambil house, Kadanad and Ullas, 38 of Maleparambil house, Kadanad. Prabhath of Malayil house has been admitted to the Government Medical College hospital, Kottayam with serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pala.
The incident took place at Manathoor Church junction around 6.20 pm.
According to police, the driver lost control over the vehicle while overtaking another vehicle and hit a tree and a compound wall on the wayside. All of them sustained serious injuries including head injuries owing to the impact of the hit. Though they were rushed to a nearby hospital in Pala, four of them were declared dead. According to sources, the condition of the injured man remains critical.
The police has registered a case. The bodies will be handed over to the kin after completing the inquest proceedings and autopsy on Monday. The dead bodies of the deceased are kept at the General Hospital morgue.
