Hyderabad: Student files plaint against Sree Vignan
Hyderabad: Even after the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) warned institutions not to withhold certificates of educational qualifications or reference certificates of employers submitted by students at the time of admission, and to follow UGC norms, the institutes continue to withhold these certificates for various reasons.
On Saturday, a police complaint was filed at the Shamshabad police station against the Sree Vignan Educational Society, Shamshabad, by a student, for withholding his certificates and for ‘extorting’ more than the prescribed fee.
The complainant, Akshay Kumar, is doing a Master’s in Social Work and took admission in August last year.
According to the complaint, when the total fee of the first year was Rs 17,500, the institute has taken signatures on the commitment bond of Rs 20,000. However, he paid only Rs 5,000 in the beginning. Later on, as there were not sufficient lecturers for the course he had selected, Mr Kumar decided to leave and requested a transfer certificate and his original certificates.
The institute, which was unavailable for comment, has refused to give him either and he has been fighting for more than six months to get the certificates which have been withheld till he clears his dues.
