Guilty will be punished: CM Edappadi K Palaniswami
COIMBATORE: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday said those involved in the Pollachi sexual abuse scandal will not go unpunished. “Whoever is involved in this ghastly crime cannot escape the law. All the accused will be probed and action initiated on the guilty,” Mr Palaniswami said.
The serial sexual assault and blackmailing of women in Pollachi which rocked the State, led to the arrest of four accused — K. Thirunavukkarasu, N. Sabarirajan, aka Rishwanth, N. Sathish and T. Vasanthakumar, under various sections of IPC. They were later detained under Goondas Act.
The group had allegedly blackmailed women and sexually abused about 50 women over the last seven years. They had befriended women students on social media and sexually abused them after winning their confidence. Police said they had used videos to blackmail the victims in return for money and sexual favours. Only one survivor has given written complaint. The State government had recommended the case to CBI for probe. While campaigning in Pollachi, the CM said, “The truth will come to light when the CBI probes the case. My government has recommended the case to CBI for probe because Stalin (DMK president) is bound to allege that the probe will be not be fair if the State agency, the CBI-CID, investigates the case.” His government would make sure that the real culprits involved in the crime would receive due punishment through court, he assured.
