Land acquisition: LDF to build consensus

The efforts are being made ahead of the meeting to be held here on April 11 to resolve contentious issues.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF is trying to build a consensus over land acquisition for NH widening in Malappuram district in the wake of violent protests from a section of local people. The efforts are being made ahead of the meeting to be held here on April 11 to resolve contentious issues. LDF leaders are in touch with UDF MLAs especially those belonging to the Muslim League to prepare a broader framework and agenda for the discussions to be held at the all party meeting in the secretariat.

The LDF leadership wants to use the all party meeting platform to allay the fears and apprehensions of the people who fear that their land and homes would be taken away. Apart from efforts to evolve a consensus, the LDF leadership is also trying to take the opposition on board for isolating organisations and individuals who are inciting the local people to unleash violence.

The idea is to neutralise the organisations which are resorting to violence and rally workers of mainstream political parties in the area. The LDF wants the government to make all efforts to reach out to the local people and take them into confidence on NH land acquisition. The police has also been given direction not to resort to any provocative action in the area considering the volatile situation in the area.
