Kozhikode: LIFE Mission 2nd phase launched
KOZHIKODE: Minister for local administration K.T. Jaleel inaugurated the second phase of the Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment (LIFE) Mission of the state government in the district on Saturday at Mathara Mathara EMS Hall. While speaking on the occasion, the minister pointed out that construction of more than 2,000 houses was completed so far within a short span of time.
The government is planning to complete construction of all houses as promised before, by May 2019, he further stated. He handed over the keys of 69 houses constructed under Olavanna Grama Panchayath to the selected people from the region. During the inaugural ceremony, the minister distributed Rs 4 lakh each to the deserving people as a first installment for houses. The construction of 492 houses has been completed in the district under the LIFE Mission of the State government.
Officials said another 700 houses were under various stages of construction as on Saturday. The LIFE Mission plans to complete the construction of 4,000 partially built houses in the first phase in the district. According to officials, 16,294 people are landless and another 10,121 are homeless. In his inaugural speech, Mr Jaleel added that the state government was in the process of ensuring home for homeless and home and land for landless people, in its bid to make Kerala a zero homeless and landless state. "Hence the entire state will be getting houses for the needy,” he added.
