Blow to Malabar Medical College

Competent authority has submitted an affidavit in Supreme Court to cancel admissions of ten of the 150 MBBS students.

Thiruvananthapuram: The competent authority designated to consider applications for regularisation of admissions to self-financing colleges found violating law has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court to cancel admissions of ten of the 150 MBBS students at the Malabar Medical College in Kozhikode. The new development comes up even as the uncertainty over the Kerala Professional Colleges (Regulation of Admission in Medical Colleges) Bill for regularising students at Karuna and Kannur medical colleges was continuing.

These students were supposed to submit their documents online in the 2016-17 academic year but failed to do so. The panel also said in their affidavit that they suspected a foul play between the students and the management. The Kerala University of Health Science (KUHS) had not approved the ten admissions. The students then approached the High Court seeking permission to write the exam, which it granted.

They then submitted a petition seeking the approval of their admissions but failed to obtain a favourable verdict as the government, the university and the competent authority took a stand against it. This was because, though they have written the first year's examination as per the order by the HC, their results have not been published. Also, their admissions have not been regularised. Malabar Medical College authorities argued that these students could not upload their documents as their official website was under maintenance.
