BJP delegation asks Governor P Sathasivam not to sign Bill
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A BJP delegation led by O. Rajagopal, MLA, on Saturday urged Governor P. Sathasivam not to sign the Bill on Karuna and Kannur medical college admissions passed by the Assembly on the last day of the session. Mr Rajagopal told reporters outside Raj Bhavan that the Bill was passed in his absence as he was away attending a party function. The delegation also included state spokesperson M. S. Kumar and Thiruvananthapuram district president S. Suresh.
Mr Rajagopal said that the stand of the LDF government and the UDF was to help the managements that took bribes for admissions. "We feel pity for the students who will lose admissions because of the court order. But we can't support the irregularities committed. The government and self-financing managements were holding the students to ransom," he said and added that the Bill was unconstitutional.
