Hyderabad: Truckers' stir off, holiday for market

Due to the truckers' strike the stock was not cleared.

Hyderabad: Traders of Mahbub Mansion market have declared a holiday till Sunday due to the truckers’ strike. Purchases will continue from Monday onwards.G. Ramesh, a trader, said there were two reasons for the purchase holiday. One is the truckers' strike and the other is heavy supplies during the first two days of the week. “Usually, the market receives 15,000 bags of red chillies a day. On Monday and Tuesday, farmers brought 25,000 bags a day and stocks piled up. Due to the truckers' strike the stock was not cleared. So the market association declared a holiday,” he said.

Although truckers called off their strike he said that it would take two or three days to clear stock and till then traders would not purchase new stock. Meanwhile, the truckers' strike did not affect onion supplies. Most of the supplies come from Maharashtra and farmers from some areas of AP too are sending their stock.

Another trader said the AP onion season ended in March and now only Maharashtra is supplying. “Usually, the market receives 40-45 trucks of onion but since two days it had come down to 35-40 loads. As there was no strike in Maharashtra truckers are supplying regularly,” he said.
