Powers of panchayats reduced in Hyderabad
The HMDA will now accept and grant building permissions for ground-plus-two and above buildings in gram panchayat areas.
Hyderabad: The state government has withdrawn building permission powers given to gram panchayats for approval of ground plus two buildings.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authorities will now accept and grant building permissions for ground-plus-two and above buildings in gram panchayat areas. This was announced by municipal administration and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao during the 6th board meeting with HMDA authorities on Thursday.
The decision comes in the wake of thousands of complaints of illegal buildings and increasing fraud in building permissions granted by gram panchayats. There was no monitoring body and no mechanism to curb these illegalities as the GHMC and HMDA do not have any role in there.
