Telangana planted 38.17 core saplings under Twenty Point programme

Under the programme, 150.23 crore saplings were planted across the country

Hyderabad: Telangana state has planted the most saplings in 2019-20, the Centre said on Monday. The state had planted 38.17 crore saplings under the Twenty Point Programme.

Babul Supriyo, Union minister of state for environment and forests, revealed this in a written reply to Congress member G.C. Chandrashekhar in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. It said that under the programme, 150.23 crore saplings were planted across the country.

As per the state forest department, the target for 2021-22 from June is to plant 20 crore saplings, an official told Deccan Chronicle. “From 2015 onwards, the state has targeted a plantation of 230 crore saplings. So far we have been able to complete six phases of this drive, and 210 crore saplings have been planted till now,” the official said.

The Centre also said that through the Vision 2024 document, the environment ministry envisions doubling the target of afforestation/annual plantation from 121 crore seedlings to 253 crore seedlings, from year 2019-20 to 2023-24.
