Telangana High Court seeks info on guarding voter list

EC counsel Avinash Desai told the court that the EC was using software only to flag demographically similar entries.

Hyderabad: In the backdrop of allegations of unfair deletion of names from electoral rolls, the Telangana High Court asked the Election Commission about how it was maintaining electoral rolls and the software it employed.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan was hearing a PIL filed by city software engineer Kodali Srinivas which alleged that the EC’s algorithm was neither transparent and nor public and was being used to delete voters; names selectively. The court directed the EC to submit an affidavit explaining about its software by Monday.

EC counsel Avinash Desai told the court that the EC was using software only to flag demographically similar entries.

The bench asked Mr Desai to place the information in writing. It asked what the EC was doing about any other data like Aadhaar seeding with the electors database.
