Major infra boost for hospitals in Tamil Nadu

Addressing the conference of district collectors and SPs, the Chief Minister made 84 announcements related to the TN districts.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday made major announcements aimed at improving the health standards of TN districts and the infrastructure in northern and western Tamil Nadu.

Addressing the conference of district collectors and SPs, the Chief Minister made 84 announcements related to the TN districts. He announced the construction of new buildings and procurement of modern health equipment at a cost of over '50 crore aimed to improve the medical facilities at government hospitals located in Kancheepuram, Dharmapuri, Theni and Nilgiris.

To save groundwater and to augment drinking water, Palaniswami unveiled new borewell and desilting plans for water-starved Vellore, Perambalur and adjacent areas. Addressing the long pending demand of repairs to Krishnagiri dam, which developed breach during the 2017 floods, the CM said that the sluice gates of the KRP dam will be repaired at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

On the infrastructure front, the CM mentioned that the new roads would be constructed in parts of western Tamil Nadu aimed to benefit motorists in Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Theni. A new grade separator at a cost of Rs 56 crore will come up in Thanjavur district and the water catchment area in Kollidam will be desilted and maintained at a cost of Rs 1.15 crore, Palaniswami said.

On the third day of conference, the CM also announced eleven awards under various categories. Under best performing district collectors and SPs categories, Kancheepuram collectorate and the Ariyalur district police bagged the first place.

Chennai city police and the Chennai corporation also bagged the first place in policing and administration under the best corporation and best city police category.
