Hyderabad: Skyway corridor along Musi to be cut by half
HYDERABAD: The elevated skyway connecting east and west corridors of the city will not see the light of day as planned originally. Two years after the project has been sanctioned, the municipal administration and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao has revised the project and reduced the length of the elevated corridor from 40 km to 25 km. After conducting a feasibility study, officials have reported that if the length of the elevated corridor along the Musi River is shortened to 25 km, the project cost could be cut by at least '1,500 cr from the whopping '5,916 cr projected currently.
According to earlier proposals prepared by the GHMC, the 40.83 km skyway, a six-lane divided carriageway with service roads would connect Nagole to the ORR west. A retaining wall along the northern bank of Musi river would be constructed that would include interchanges. The resolution on the multi-crore pet project was passed by the GHMC council during March 15, 2016.
However, the project has been delayed for two years and has been handed over to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation for execution. However, KTR during a recent review meeting asked the officials to prepare a master plan for the development of Musi, keeping in view its beautification and development.
Against this backdrop, MRDC officials conducted a detailed survey and learnt that if six bottle necks along the proposed skyway along Musi are removed, the project cost could be cut down by at least '1,500, apart from downsizing it to 25 km.
The official also claimed than if six bottlenecks from Tipu Khan bridge to ORR (west) and Nagole to ORR (east) are cleared the traffic congestion could be reduced by a great extent which would save several crores of rupees.
