Hyderabad: Bus falls off bridge, 50 persons escape narrowly
Hyderabad: A bus carrying 50 passengers, all employees of Cyient, veered off the road, hit a bridge railing and later fell off it, by which time all except the driver got out of the vehicle. The bus later fell into the water along with the driver who suffered injuries. According to police, the incident occurred on early on Wednesday when the driver dozed off.
“Though all passengers onboard the bus were safe, the driver sustained injuries. The incident took place around 1:10 am on Wednesday” said Sanathnagar inspector E.Venkat Reddy. The Chityal-bound bus was carrying company employees, he added.
The police said that the driver, identified as Jaffar, fell asleep at the wheel and hit the vehicle onto the bridge railing. He was probably not well and so dozed off.
“The bus veered off to the right after the driver lost control. Luckily, there was no vehicle from the opposite side," Mr Reddy added.
The bus clung on to the edge of the bridge for a few minutes during which time passengers jumped out, before it fell down along with the driver.
"As the height from where the bus fell was just a few metres, Jaffar escaped with injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment. He appeared fatigued," the official added.
Police booked a case against the driver under Section 279 of IPC for rash driving.
