Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to form local lake protection committees involving elected public representatives along with members of the colony associations.
The lake protection committee will ensure that construction debris will not be dumped into the water bodies in the vicinity.
The civic body officials feel that it has become a herculean task for the GHMC to protect the city water bodies without citizen support. Officials claimed that members of the local lake protection committees will ensure the protection of full tank levels of the water bodies and curb unauthorised constructions.
The local committee can also alert the corporation about the illegal dumping and unauthorised construction in FTLs levels. Enforcement teams can be sent immediately to either demolish or take appropriate action.
The GHMC commissioner has instructed locals officials to initiate measures to prevent murky waters from entering into the city lakes. Moreover, he said that it was important that the lake protection committees are formed to protect the lakes.
