Hyderabad: Municipal and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday conducted a field survey on the banks of River Musi in the city and promised to spend Rs 3,000 crore to make the river free of drainage water besides making it beautiful.
Mr Rama Rao, along with mayor Bonthu Rammohan and senior officials, visited the areas abutting the river in the city.
He said drainage and sewerage water from as many as 51 nalas reached the river. “Out of 1,250 million litres per day flowing into the Musi, only half is being treated through STPs (Sewerage Treatment Plants). Unless more and more STPs are set up, the problem would not be resolved,” the minister said.
A meeting of contractors and reputed construction organisations has been planned on March 15 to discuss various development projects for the city, including the beautification of the River Musi.
An action plan will be submitted to the Chief Minister for approval, the minister said. “East-West corridor expressways are planned over and abutting the Musi in the city. We will set up 10 more STPs, besides planting aromatic plants on either banks of the river to end the breeding of mosquitoes. We will also implement beautification plans like parks near Uppal bhagyat lands so that HMDA can develop plots and sell,” he added.
When asked about availability of funds for the gigantic project, the minister said that was not going to be a problem. “The government will tie up with NABARD and Green Climate Fund for funding the project,” he said.
