Protest over decision to allocate land for P T Usha
KOZHIKODE: The PTA of Government Technical Higher Secondary School, West Hill, has come out against the state government’s decision to allocate 10 cents to legendary athlete P. T. Usha here.
The order says the land will be carved out of the school ground, and given free of cost. The school is situated on a 1.43 acres, four kilometers away from Kozhikode city. “We have no objection to giving another land to her," PTA president Panoor Thankam said.
“The school is in a dilapidated state already and has several shortcomings. We do not even have a proper workshop. If the land is divided, students will have no place to play.”
The rules say a technical school should have at least 2.5 acres. “She is an accomplished athlete, and we are not against her. Our request is not to weaken the existing school, which has an excellent track record in academics,” she said.
“Last year the technical educational director had asked the school superintendent whether the allocation was feasible. We sent a strong letter objecting it.” When PTA contacted Usha, who is in Rajasthan now, she agreed to talk when she returns.
