NDA saffronising educational institutes: CPI
Hyderabad: Extending greetings to women on Women’s Day that falls on Tuesday, the CPI National Executive on Monday demanded the NDA government pass a legislation providing 33 per cent reservations for women in Parliament and state legislatures. The party also condemned “saffornisation of universities and other educational institutions by Sangh Parivar”. The party’s National Executive, in session at Hyderabad, said that almost all political parties supported the demand for 33 per cent representation of women in Parliament and state legislatures.
“When it comes to legislation, except for the Left, political parties find excuses to the legislation,” said Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, CPI national general-secretary.
The party also expressed serious concern over the Sangh Parivar’s student wing ABVP targeting Allahabad University students’ union president Richa Singh after she did not allow the “communally vocal” BJP MP Yogi Adityanath to visit the campus.
“Ms Richa Singh, as Union President is fighting for gender equality and democratic functioning of the university. The ABVP has launched a vicious character assassination campaign against Ms Singh, a Ph D student. By cooking up charges of violation of rules in admission, they are demanding her expulsion,” NEC chairman Chada Venkat Reddy said. The developments in the Allahabad University are linked to developments in the JNU, Hyderabad Central University, Pune Film Institute, Chennai IIT, Banaras Hindu University and Jadavpur University as a part of the Sangh Parivar’s attempts to saffronise educational institutions and take over institutions of higher education, the CPI leaders charged.
