Constable dies in bid to save people in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A constable lost his life on Monday at Kishan Bagh while trying to save the lives of devotees at a temple.
The constable, B. Srinivas, of Bahadur-pura police station, was trying to divert people away from a loose electric cable. But he accidentally stepped on it and suffered a shock. He was rushed to hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
B. Srinivas, 25, (No: 5572), joined as a constable in 2014. He and 19 other men and an SI were deployed at the Kasibugga temple to manage crowds. Some of the cops were controlling crowds at the Garbhagudi located on the ground. Srinivas and some others were controlling crowds at the main Garbhagudi, located at a height of around 25 feet.
The crowds have to pass through a narrow path, climbing 25 steps to reach this place and it has two gates. Srinivas was at the second gate where an electric cable connected to a motor was passing through.
“Around 2 pm he saw people rushing towards that gate and to stop them from stepping on the cable he went forward and accidentally stepped on the cable,” said inspector Hari-kaushik. He was immediately taken to hospital but he died after an hour.
Srinivas, the third child in his family, had lost both parents at a very young age and his brother B. Laxman Naik, who is working as a lecturer in an engineering college had brought him up. His elder sister is married. He has a younger unmarried sister.
The police commissioner visited the hospital and paid tributes to Srinivas. The final rites of Srinivas will be held on Tuesday with guard of honour. Based on a complaint from constable Nikhil who was on duty at the temple a suspicious death case was registered.
