Hyderabad: Working professionals reacted to the many changes proposed in the Telangana Budget that was tabled in the Assembly on Monday —from the new Employees Health Scheme, 95 per cent reservation for locals, the additional amount of ₹1,000 crore proposed for the salaries of newly recruited employees and regularisation of contract employees. Somehow, it's the reservation-for-locals proposal that's being discussed on social media platforms.

Vineela T, a teacher in a private school, believes that the 95 per cent reservation for locals was a welcome decision. "This is a good sign of a 'Telangana first' policy because it will encourage locals to choose the state over any place elsewhere, allow talent pool to stay and grow here, which is sure a win-win."

Madhav Kumar R. seconded Vineela to add that until there's a good ratio of 'more' locals in government jobs, to begin with, it can be a temporary means to hire locals. "I don't think a lot of people would be disappointed by this, given the government seems to be doing a decent job of delivering on promises, especially with the creation of jobs at the government level," the IT employee said.

Yash Chawla, an IT professional and native of Ahmedabad, believed the decision was taken after several consultations, but hopes it can be reconsidered. "Any day, choosing merit over where one comes from helps the company/organisation and eventually the state and the country," he opined.

A few other employees expressed worry over forcibly letting go of a part of their salaries for the new employee health care scheme, despite having better health insurance. "But these schemes are most beneficial to those who work for meagre wages and poor health conditions, especially given how expensive even health check up can be," said Anant Mishra, another IT employee.
