Vijayawada: Employees' bid to protest CPS foiled

The police prevented the employees from proceeding ahead to the capital city of Amaravati.

Vijayawada: Police foiled the protest by employees against the Contributory Pension Scheme here on Thursday.

The police arrested the employees staging a stir on the Besant Road, as part of their Chalo Assembly protest.

The police prevented the employees from proceeding ahead to the capital city of Amaravati.

As part of their protest, the employees squatted on the road and police, in a bid to clear the traffic, pulled them away from the place and shifted them into their vans and taken to various police stations.

Policemen were deployed in a large number at the UTF office here to prevent them from gathering in large numbers.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, APUTF general secretary P. Babu Reddy said that the government was undemocratic in directing the police to arrest employees at bus stations, railway stations and a few at their residences. “This is objectionable,” he said.

He said that they had given notice to the government a week and also demanded that the CM should make the government’s stand clear on the issue of cancellation of CPS and implementation of the old pension scheme.
