Polluting units shut in Andhra Pradesh

The minister asked the APPCB chairman to act tough against pollution causing industries.

Vijayawada: AP Pollution Control Board chairman, B.S.S. Prasad told forests and environment minister Sidda Raghava Rao that notices have been issued to several industries that were causing pollution in the state. He informed that some of the industries that did not comply with APPCB norms were ordered to be closed. Prasad met Raghava Rao at the minister’s chamber on Wednesday.

The minister asked the APPCB chairman to act tough against pollution causing industries. Prasad said that around 866 industries were inspected by the PCB authorities in the last three months and notices were issued to 405 for not complying to norms. He also added that around 29 industries were closed by the PCB.

He said that PCB personnel also inspected 59 stone crushing units that were causing pollution in and around Perecherla of Guntur district and took steps to control the pollution. The minister asked the PCB chairperson to cancel the licences of stone crushing units that fail to control pollution. He also asked Prasad to ensure sewerage treatment plants at all the hospitals and the biomedical waste is disposed and treated properly.
