Karti seeks Madras High Court 's nod for travel to UK, France

According to Karti, on June 16, 2017, the Bureau of Immigration, on CBI's request had issued a look out circular against him.

Chennai: Karti P Chidambaram, son of former Union finance minister P. Chidambaram, has approached the Madras High Court to permit him to travel to the UK and France between February 15 and 28 and once again between March 20 and 31, 2018.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose before whom the petition filed by Karti came up for hearing, ordered notice, returnable by February 12, to the Bureau of Immigration, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Economic Offences Unit and Foreigner Regional Registration Officer and Assistant Foreigners Regional Registration Officer.

According to Karti, on June 16, 2017, the Bureau of Immigration, on CBI’s request had issued a look out circular against him.

He challenged the validity of LOC and this court granted an interim stay of the operation of LOC. CBI preferred an SLP and the Supreme Court had stayed the order of the single judge of this court.

By order dated August 18, 2017, the Supreme Court directed him to appear before the investigating officer of CBI. He appeared on August 23 and 28, 2017 before CBI.

Subsequently, he filed an application before Supreme Court to permit him to travel to UK in connection with the admission of his daughter to Cambridge University and the Supreme Court by order dated November 20, 2017 allowed him to travel abroad, he added.

He said he was the Director of Totus Tennis Ltd. Again, he filed an application seeking permission to travel to the UK and France.

Before the Supreme Court could consider the said application, on January 31, 2018, it disposed of the SLP ordering that the petitions challenging the LOC be decided by the Division Bench of Madras High Court within two months.

Supreme Court further directed that if any application for travelling abroad was filed before the high court, the same shall be appositely addressed.

It was in these circumstances, he was taking out the instant petition seeking permission to go to UK and France in connection with the Totus Tennis Ltd, which is engaged in sports business, in tennis tournaments, talent and training.
