Bineesh Kodiyeri declared wanted in UAE

The allegation is that Bineesh had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh dirhams from the bank.

Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another embarrassment for CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, reports suggest that his younger son Bineesh Kodiyeri is a wanted man in UAE in connection with a criminal case.

According to reports, a Dubai court sentenced Bineesh to two months imprisonment in connection with the non-repayment of a loan taken from the Dubai branch of a Saudi-based finance company. The verdict was given by the court in his absence in December last.

Acting on the complaint filed by the finance company, Dubai police registered a case against Bineesh. Subsequently the case was transferred to the prosecution wing and later it reached the court.

The allegation is that Bineesh had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh dirhams from the bank. Though the bank had deputed a recovery agency to get the money back, it didn’t work. The bank also got information that the accused was the son of a prominent political leader. Bineesh will be arrested the moment he arrives in UAE.

Sources said if a proclaimed offender arrives in UAE, the immigration CID wing at the airport will record his arrest and shift him to police headquarters. Later he will be taken to the CID office functioning in the court premises and will subsequently be produced before the judge who had passed the verdict.

If the accused refuses to accept the verdict, then the case in all probability is reopened. If he accepts the verdict, then the accused will have to be sent to jail. As per UAE law, the accused can settle the case even after the verdict by depositing the amount mentioned in the order. He will have to produce a release letter from the complainant.

The reports on Bineesh come close on the heels of his elder brother Binoy being slapped with a travel ban by a Dubai court following a cheating case by Dubai-based JAAS Tourism which has alleged that Binoy Kodiyeri had cheated it of Rs 13 crore.
