Telangana youth turn to Army for jobs
Kothagudem: Youth from rural areas in Telangana districts are showing more interest in participating in the Army Recruitment Rally being held in Kothagudem when compared to their counterparts in urban areas.
Joining the Army is being viewed by the youth as an opportunity to serve the country and leading a better livelihood.
At present, the total salary of a sepoy is around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, including daily allowance and other allowances, and it will be hiked in a big way after the new pay rules to the Army personnel are okayed by the Centre. Then, the salary of a soldier is expected to be around Rs 35,000-Rs 40,000.
The changed scenario in Gulf countries has also affected the youth in Telangana and they are turning to recruitment in the Army.
P. Praveen, from Peddapally, who attended the Army Recruitment Rally in ongoing rally at Kothagudem, said, “Many of my friends, who went to Gulf countries in search of jobs came back after experiencing the stringent rules there. I chose to join the Army as the best option at this juncture.”
The rush to the Army Recruitment Rally, which began on February 4 is increasing by the day. The rally will continue till February 15.
About 2,937 youth attended the tests for soldier (technical job) posts in the rally on the first day and the figure reached 3,666 for soldiers (general) category on Sunday.
N. Srihari, hailing from Undavalli in Medak district said, “We are expecting a good hike in the salary after completion of 15 years of service in the Army. Apart from handsome salaries, we also can have the satisfaction of serving the country. It is good than many other jobs,” he said.
The Army officials are also keen on inducting more youth into the services from the country.
Deputy director general for Army Recruitment Rally said, “The Army will recruit youth who pass the physical fitness tests. The tests will be very tough and they have to pass,” he said.
